Colt dome
The dome of the Colt Armory (1865) greets motorists entering Hartford from Interstate 91 northbound. Samuel Colt and his successors produced a number of important American firearms here, including the Colt 45, "the gun that won the West." Hartford History

About This Site

This site concerns the history of Hartford, the capital city of Connecticut. Founded three and a half centuries ago, Hartford has a heritage matched by few other cities in America. Here's a place where you can enjoy it - and perhaps help others do the same.

Maybe you've written a paper that would interest people outside the classroom, or remember things about the "old days" in the city that others would love to know. By sharing your knowledge, you'll not only add to the historical record but make Hartford a more interesting and meaningful place for today's residents and visitors.

At any rate, enjoy the site, and most of all, enjoy Hartford!
