Postcards from Hartford

As Hartford's wealth and population swelled after the Civil War, the rich began moving out of downtown and building mansions for themselves along new streets in the Asylum Hill section, including Woodland Street, which is pictured here. When people in the Victorian era referred to the "suburbs" of Hartford, they usually meant city neighborhoods like this one.
