‘Arthur’s, Arthur’s, open almost all the time…’

The radio jingle you couldn’t get out of your head is gone, and so is the drugstore chain it advertised. The last of the Arthur’s, in the Civic Center Mall, closed on May 20. The original store, on the corner of Farmington Avenue and Sigourney Street, closed in 2000. That store became the city's only all-night pharmacy when it opened in 1941, after a stint in another location nearby. As the Hartford Courant reported: "The neon-lit store dispensed stomach medicine to ailing neighbors and fed the crowds spilling from bars that closed at 1 a.m."
