Near the Bulkeley Bridge, there was a pillar that hosted a series of markers for the high-water points in Hartford&#8217;s most severe floods, at least since 1936:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hartfordhistory.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/highwater_blue3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-385\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hartfordhistory.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/highwater_blue3-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"733\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hartfordhistory.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/highwater_blue3.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.hartfordhistory.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/highwater_blue3-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 85vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To stand before that pillar and then look across the path at the Connecticut River is to send your imagination reeling:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-403\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hartfordhistory.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/078-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hartfordhistory.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/078-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hartfordhistory.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/078-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.hartfordhistory.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/078-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 85vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To see the effects of these disasters, check out the photos at the <a href=\"http:\/\/collections.ctdigitalarchive.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Connecticut Digital Archive<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/collections.ctdigitalarchive.org\/islandora\/search\/1936%20hartford%20flood?type=dismax\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Here<\/a>, for instance, are search results for the 1936 flood.
